Pauline Margaret Bartley

April 27, 1922 ~ April 23, 2017 (age 94) 94 Years Old

Pauline Margaret Murphy Bartley - Pauline left for heaven on Sunday April 23, 2017, 4 days before she would have been 95 years old.

She leaves behind her 3 sons, Arthur David Bartley and his wife Brenda, William Bartley and his wife Christine and Michael Bartley and his wife Cynthia. Pauline also leaves her grandchildren; David (DJ), Billy, Patrick (Candice), Michael (Jenna), Sean (Tara), Michelle and Taylor, and one great-granddaughter Raegan.

Pauline was born April 27, 1922 to William and Katherine Murphy. Pauline lived in West Haven her whole life. After graduating high school, Pauline enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during WWII. Upon her discharge she received an honorable discharge with an American Campaign ribbon and a Victory ribbon for her service.

Upon returning home, Pauline worked for the New Haven, Hartford and New York Railroad for several years. Pauline married her ex-husband, the late Arthur Bartley, in 1949 and over the next several years they had three sons. After her sons were born, out of necessity, Pauline had to return to the work force and worked for many years for Western Electric. After leaving there Pauline joined the police force for the City of New Haven as a Meter Maid and held that position for 12 years. Pauline enjoyed it but an opportunity to transfer to the indoors of the city welfare office beckoned and she took the opportunity and stayed there until her retirement at age 65.

Pauline spent her retirement years working around her gardens and yard. Pauline had a very artistic knack and would design flower arrangements and wreaths for the holidays and special occasions.  Pauline was a great cook and her potato salad was the BEST! Pauline also loved to travel with her sisters Lorraine and Mary Francis and their husbands. Trips included Ireland, California, Canada, England and Florida.

Pauline was predeceased by her sisters Lorraine (Harold) Card, Mary Francis (Paul) Hogan, and brothers William and Raymond Murphy. Besides her three sons, their wives, grandchildren and great-granddaughter, Pauline is survived by her sisters in law Joan and Alice Murphy as well as many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by cousins in the New Haven area and Ireland.

Pauline, being a single mom in the 50’s and 60’s, did everything for her boys and with help from family was able to accomplish things that were not the norm at that time. She was very proud of her son’s accomplishments and their careers as well.

Pauline’s last years were spent at Seacrest Retirement Home in West Haven and the Bartley family would like to thank the staff there for the care of our mom as well as the staff of Vitas for their care, especially during her final days.

Family and friends are invited to gather at the Keenan Funeral Home, 238 Elm St. West Haven on Thursday April 27, 2017 from 8:30-10:30am.  The funeral cortege will then process to St. John Vianney Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11am.  Interment will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donation may be made in Pauline’s memory to, The Alzheimer's Association, 225 N, Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
