Helen M. Barrett

Helen M. Barrett – 94, of Branford (formerly of North Branford) died peacefully on Thursday, March 23rd, 2017. She was born in New Haven, CT on June 18,1922 to the late Frank & Margaret (Callahan) Farrell and was the beloved wife of the late John V. Barrett. Helen was a homemaker to four children and a devoted spouse to John (first selectman of North Branford in 1960s). During WWII, while John was serving overseas in the Navy, Helen worked for A.C. Gilbert in New Haven. Helen was an avid storyteller until the end and was loved by everyone who knew her. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren & great grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by many. Devoted wife and mother, she leaves behind her children – James Barrett (Patricia) of North Branford, Nancy Barrett and Susan Barrett of Florida. She was predeceased by her son Paul Barrett and daughter-in-law, Mary Anne Barrett. Helen also leaves behind grandchildren Kimberly Derksen (Todd), Christopher Barrett (Laurel), Jason Barrett (Jennifer), Rachel Cronin (Gavin), Meaghan Darville & Sean Darville (Erica) and 12 great grandchildren. Friends may pay their respects and visit with family at Keenan’s Funeral Home on Saturday, April 1st from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. Private family burial arrangements are to follow. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in honor of Helen to St Jude’s Children hospital. Helen’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of both The Madison House and Compassus Hospice for the incredible care that was provided to Helen over these last few months.
