Margaret Haughey, 99, passed away at Essex Meadows on Saturday March 4, 2017.  She was born on June 22, 1917 in Brooklyn, NY and was the daughter of the late George and Mary Burger.  Marge attended St. Gerard’s School in Hollis and Mercy Commercial High School in Brooklyn where she studied to become a legal secretary. She worked for Queens County Municipal Judge William E. Kennedy and then at the Silvercup Bread/Gordon Baking Company where her duties included typing the scripts for the Lone Ranger radio program. After her marriage to Robert Haughey, they settled in Garden City, NY and later Old Brookville and Southold Long Island. She was very active in the Girl Scouts of America for 15 years, Regina Assemblies & Cotillion of Rockville Centre; ran a charity airlift during the Korean War to Father Mathias Kim; volunteered at the Treasure Exchange of Garden City and Southold and, as an avid golfer, became the President of the Woman’s Association of both Brookville Country Club and the North Fork Country Club as well as becoming a member of the Metropolitan Golf Association of NY. In 1993 Marge moved to Essex Meadows in Essex, CT and served on the Board of the Women’s Exchange of Old Lyme; headed one of the Shoreline Soup Kitchen teams for Our Lady of Sorrows Church and continued to enjoy golf at The Old Lyme Country Club.  Marge is survived by her daughter Gail Sheridan; her daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Bill Harris; as well as 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.  Marge was predeceased by her husband Robert; her daughter and son-in-law Jane Ellen and Bob Duncan; her granddaughter and her husband Kathy and Andy Casey, and her two grandsons Brian Maguire and Michael Sheridan. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday  March 11, 2017 at 10:30am at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 14 Prospect St. Essex, CT.
