William Joseph Zito, Age 82 of West Haven passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends at Hamden Health Care Center in Hamden, CT. He was the beloved husband of Mary Elizabeth Callahan. Bill was born on March 4, 1936 to the late William J. and Theresa Aceto Zito.
Bill was a United States Air Force veteran served during both the Korea and Vietnam wars. He retired from the United States Postal Service in Long Wharf, New Haven after 30 years of service. Bill and Mary loved to travel throughout the United States to see as many of the natural wonders as possible. They especially loved to travel to the Air Force reunions around the United States. Bill was a member of the Disabled Veterans Association, Blind Veterans Association, Italian American Club, and American Legion. Bill defended people’s freedom for the right to vote and serve their country. He was also an avid stamp and coin collector. He will be sadly missed.
Besides his wife of 59 years he is survived by five children, Debra (Peter) Levesuque of Naugatuck, John William Zito of North Haven, Thomas Michael (Lisa) Zito of West Haven, Lisa (John) Yena of Rhode Island and Rebecca (Tom) Kilstrom of Northford. He also leaves behind his 2 brothers, Richard (Karen) Zito of CA and Michael (Betsy) Zito of Durham and one sister Francis Zito of East Haven. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Aaron Levesuque, Deanna Brady, Parish, Logan and Keene Yena, Nicholas Zito, Liam and Mason Kilstrom and one great grandchild Jace Levesuque. Bill was predeceased by two brothers, George and Joseph Zito.
Family and friends may visit the Keenan Funeral Home, 238 Elm Street, West Haven, CT Thursday, May 17 from 5 – 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, May 18th, 11 am, Our Lady of Victory, 600 Jones Hill Road, West Haven.
