Virginia L. Martens

September 22, 1940 ~ October 9, 2017 (age 77) 77 Years Old


Virginia L. Martens, 77, beloved wife of the late Robert. O. Martens retired WHPD, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, October 9, 2017.  She was born in New Haven on September 22, 1940 to the late Michael and Florence “Dolly” (Angelo) Mierzejewski. 

She was a lifelong resident of West Haven and graduated from West Haven High School Class of 1959.  Virginia was employed by Stop and Shop in Orange for a number years and was a parishioner of St Paul Church for all her life.  Virginia truly enjoyed her daily walks along the West Haven beaches as well as spending time gaming  at her local casino. 

Virginia is survived by her only son; Robert Martens and his wife Paula.  She also leaves behind her three grandchildren; Michelle Popoli and her husband Jonathan, Stephanie Martens and her fiancé Jason Pennington and Jessica Martens.  She also leaves behind one great granddaughter Tahlia Leahy and a brother Ronald Mierzejewski and his partner Judy Thomas.  She was predeceased by her beloved nephew Michael W. Mierzejewski. 

Family and friends are welcomed to attend a graveside service on Friday October 13, 2017 at 3pm at All Saints Mausoleum, 700 Middletown Avenue, North Haven.  At Virginia's request there will be no calling hours.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Seasons Hospice, 21 Church St Naugatuck CT, 06770; or St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105.
