Stanley Frank Skowronek

Stanley Frank Skowronek passed away at the age of 82 on June 1, 2017 where he had been in the care of Connecticut Hospice in Branford for one week.  Stanley was born on September 15, 1934, to Peter and Mary (Pietrycha) Skowronek in New Haven, CT.  He attended Saint Stanislaus Elementary School and was a high school graduate of Saint John Kanty Prep in Erie PA.  He took great pride in his education at Kanty and remained close with his classmates for the rest of his life.  After Kanty, he attended Yale University and graduated with a physics degree, teaching science at Wilbur Cross High School for a short time. He later earned a Master’s degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.  He then went to work in the nuclear power industry, being employed by United Nuclear Corporation and its successors.  After retiring from industry in 1989, he worked as a financial advisor and tax preparer for many years.  Stanley married Loretta Jean Mislick on August 15, 1957.  Loretta passed away in 1992 after a long battle with breast cancer.  He was also predeceased by his son Charles, who succumbed to cancer in 1999.  Stanley then married Florence Ficocelli on April 26, 1997, and they resided in Madison, CT until last year, when they moved to North Branford. 

Stanley is survived by his wife Florence, of North Branford, CT; Brother Peter and his wife Anne of Palm Beach Gardens Florida; Sister Bernice and her husband Richard Kijewski of New Haven, CT, and his sons; Stanley and his wife Jo Ann of Massena, NY and Mark of San Francisco, CA.  He is also survived by his step children; Michael Ficocelli and his wife Marci of Pomona, NY and Paula Krompinger and her husband Jay of Madison, CT.  Stanley also leaves behind his five step grandchildren; Jason (Rachel), Scott (Virginia), Keith, Barbra (Tom) and Eric (Francesca) as well as one step great-granddaughter Madison.

Family and Friends are welcomed to visit the Keenan Funeral Home, 330 Notch Hill Rd. North Branford on Friday June 9, 2017 from 4pm-7pm.  A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday June 10, 2017 at St. George Catholic Church, 33 Whitfield St, Guilford at 10am.  Family and friends are asked to gather directly at the church the morning of the funeral Mass.  Interment will follow at East Lawn Cemetery, East Haven.  Stanley’s family would like to thank the doctors and staff of both Evergreen Health Care Center and Connecticut Hospice for the compassionate and attentive care given to him.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stanley’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.
