Sarah W. White

After a long struggle with cancer, Sarah Wingo White died on December 14th, 2017 while surrounded by family in her home in North Branford, CT.

Sarah was born on November 23rd, 1946 in Clinton, South Carolina to Robert and Katie (Bigham) Wingo.  At the age of 21, after a blind date and a brief courtship, Sarah was married to her husband Ben J. White just days before his departure to fight in the Vietnam War. Their marriage lasted until her passing nearly 50 years later.  After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Southern Connecticut State University in 1985, Sarah worked as a Registered Nurse at Yale New Haven Hospital in the field of Oncology until her own battle with cancer ended her career in the year 2000.  Although Sarah was no longer able to work with patients, she maintained her nursing license until her passing. Sarah was widely valued among family and friends for her limitless knowledge of medicine and willingness to provide unvarnished opinions on topics medical and otherwise.

Sarah is survived by her husband Ben J. White; daughter Johanna (White) Wellington; son Roger White and five grandchildren.  

Sarah White will be remembered at Keenan Funeral Home, 330 Notch Hill Road, North Branford, CT with calling hours from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.  Pastor Vance Taylor will lead a short memorial service from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m.
