On September 24, 2021, Robert “Bob” Smith of North Branford died peacefully after a brief illness and is now walking hand in hand with his beloved late-wife of 57-years, Norma-Jean (King) Smith. Son of the late Thomas and Sadie (Hughes) Smith.
He leaves behind his children David (Marisa) Smith of Florida; Diane (Rick) Patnaude of Branford; Debbie (John) Wynne of Guilford; Dawn (Frank) O’Brien of West Haven, and Darcy Smith of Hamden. Loving Poppy of Jeremy and Collin Smith, Kyle (Samantha) Patnaude, Megan (Michael) Thompson, Daniel Patnaude, Connor Smith and Ashleigh Wynne (fiancé Joe Duval). Loving Great Poppy of Adeline and Clara Patnaude, and Arthur Thompson. Bob also leaves behind his dear friend and loving companion, Angela McKeon. Predeceased by brothers James, Thomas and Vincent Smith.
Veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Graduated from Hillhouse (1949) and UConn School of Pharmacy (1959); President and General Manager of Amity Pharmacies; retired Pharmacist from Walgreens; member of the American and CT Pharmaceutical Associations; member of Saint Patrick and Knights of Columbus as well as the Democratic Committee of the Town of North Branford; and 20-year member/Chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals of North Branford. Bob was an avid Red Sox fan. He always said, “I’ve been a fan from the womb and will be watching them play from Heaven.” After the death of his wife, Norma-Jean, he found great companionship, joy, and laughter with his “Hospice lunch group”. After retirement, Bob became an amateur photographer. If we had to light the birthday candles once, we had to relight them five times for a good picture. Our father’s most fulfilling joy in life was watching his grandchildren thrive and become honorable adults. He was excited to be 90 years old, so he can meet and be a part of his three great-grandchildren’s lives, the most recent great-granddaughter born four days prior to his passing. Goodbye Dad, Poppy, Great Poppy. Tell Nana hello!
