Robert V. Slater

Robert Vincent Slater Senior age 83 of Durham, Connecticut passed away suddenly on June 11, 2021 while at the Hartford Hospital. He was born on July 25, 1937 in New Haven, CT. to Frederick and Jane Slater.

At the age of 17 he started working with his dad and followed in his footsteps, becoming a professional painter and taper. He later joined the Painter’s Union and spent 45 years perfecting his skills.

On December 14, 1957 he married Donna Holmes, who predeceased him in 2018, and together they raised four children. In the early years the  family spent many summers vacationing in Maine. During their later years, he and Donna enjoyed spending their summers at their lake home in Vermont.

Bob enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He shared his passion with his children, grandchildren and friends. Bob enjoyed spending time on the water and owned many boats during his lifetime.

His family was extremely important to him and he was an excellent provider and role model for his children and grandchildren. Bob was a huge supporter of his children’s sports programs. He often was outside helping his sons improve their skills in baseball and he enjoyed attending their games. He was also a big fan of UCONN girls basketball and the Red Sox.

He is survived by his children: Scott Slater of Durham, CT. , Robert Slater and his wife Janet of Derby, VT. , Richard Slater of Caanan, VT. and Karen Mokoski of Middletown, CT. ; his grandchildren: Jillian Agnew and her husband Corey, Ryan Slater and his wife Jennifer, Amy Slater, Nick Pagani and Lauren Mokoski ; his brother Fred Slater and his wife Joan of East Haven, CT. and their daughters Alison, Leslie and Kristen as well as four great grandchildren.

Bob was a kind and generous man who was loved by many. He will be fondly remembered and missed by his family and friends.
