Robert J Raynor

September 21, 1933 ~ September 28, 2021 (age 88)

Tribute

Robert Joseph Raynor, or Bob as he was known to most, sadly departed this world on September 28, 2021.  Bob was born on September 21, 1933 to Elmer and Cecelia Raynor and raised in Gouverneur, New York.  He was the younger brother to Paul, who was ten years his senior. Bob grew up enjoying the outdoors and could often be found hunting or fishing in his younger years.  When he was old enough, he spent a summer working on the New York Central Railroad, which was a proud moment since his dad was a railway man as well.  Bob graduated from St John Fisher College, in Rochester, N.Y. and was a proud member of the inaugural class. While a student he met his future wife, Patricia Duffy, at a school dance.  Patricia was a student at nearby Nazareth College. The two married in 1958, and together they raised three children in the Deerfield Hills neighborhood of North Branford, CT.

Bob started a career as a research chemist with Olin Corporation in western New York, but was soon transferred to New Haven, Connecticut, where he spent most of his career. By the time he retired from Olin’s Cheshire facility in 1990 he had earned the company multiple patents in urethanes. His work can be found in everyday products like insulation, automobile dashboards, car seats, furniture, and footwear.  After Bob retired he became an accomplished clock maker, photographer, wood’s craftsman, and RC plane enthusiast.

A dozen years after Patricia passed 1988 Bob married his widowed friend and neighbor Linsie Whitlock Silvestro in 2000. The two built a life together for more than twenty years. Bob often remarked how lucky he was to have found two great women. Bob and Linsie continued to reside in Deerfield Hills until two years ago when Bob required the nursing care at Apple Rehab of Guilford.  Our family extends our appreciation to Apple Rehab for their excellent and compassionate care.

Those of us who knew Bob best remember a person with a towering intellect, unshakable morals, patriotism, a strong faith and love of family. He will be missed.  Bob leaves behind his wife Linsie Raynor and her two sons, Tony Silvestro and Robert Silvestro, his son Dan Raynor, his daughter Eileen Raynor Meehan, his son in-law Hugh Meehan, his grandchildren, Patrick Raynor, Danielle Raynor, Eric Raynor, Madison Raynor, Catherine Raynor, Sean Meehan, Ryan Meehan, Jack Meehan and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Cecelia Raynor, his first wife, Patricia Raynor, his brother, Paul Raynor and his son, David Raynor.

A 10:00 a.m. celebration of life Mass will be held this Saturday, October 2, 2021 at St Augustine’s church in North Branford.  Immediately following the mass Bob will be laid to rest at All Saints Cemetery.  A reception will be hosted by the family after the burial.
