Richard “Zamp” Zampano, of Branford, passed from our lives to be with our Lord on Friday 6 August, 2021. He was 74.
“Rich” was born in New Haven, Connecticut on 10 August 1946 and is the son of the late Peter V. Zampano and Rose (Cascagne) Zampano of Chula Vista, California, formerly of West Haven, Connecticut.
Over his lifetime, Rich’s talents and trades were many and varied. In his early years, he studied music, with trumpet being his instrument of choice. He was quite good and played in the band at Branford High School where he was a graduate of the class of ’64. He wasn’t one for routine desk jobs and became interested in the carpet installation business. Being a very independent soul, he determined the self employed route was a good fit for him and established “Big Z’s Carpet Installation” which he worked at until his retirement. He proudly served as a member of the Army Reserves.
Richard is the father (and father-in-law) of Susan (Zampano) Hirsch and husband Jeff of Meriden, Connecticut, Richard Zampano of Branford, Connecticut and Jennifer (Zampano) Wesson and husband Robert of West Haven, Connecticut. He is survived by his sister, Teresa (Zampano) Bratcher and brother-in-law Darin of Chula Vista, California, He is also the proud grandfather to Brayden Hirsch.
Rich loved his family, his friends, sharing good food and sharing good times. An avid baseball fan, (New York Yankees of course), Rich spent some time w/the Foxon Rec Little League as a Coach and Umpire where he also served as President for a time, and doubled on duty at the snack bar selling hot dogs, sodas, and fried egg sandwiches at “The Pit” baseball field of East Haven, CT. We will always love and miss you.
