Michael C. “Sarge” Vanacore , passed away at the CT Hospice in Branford on Thursday, November 14, 2019. Born in New Haven on May 11, 1929 to Carmela Esposito and Michael J. Vanacore. Michael was a retired Sargent in the U.S. Airforce receiving his honorable discharge in 1955. Michael then was employed as a firefighter at the Admiral Street firehouse in West Haven until he retired in 1987. The next chapter in his life was spent working at The Race Brook Country Club in Orange, where he was the primary rough mower until his ultimate retirement after 25 years in 2012.
Mike was a voracious reader and an avid amateur photographer who rarely captured his subjects in focus or even in the pictures he took.
Mike leaves, sisters Loretta Pace of Branford and Florence D’errico of North Haven. He was predeceased by his siblings James, Celeste and Carmela.
A special Thanks goes out to the Nurses and Doctors of St. Raphael’s 5th floor and the all the Special people of the CT Hospice in Branford.
Visiting hours will take place Tuesday, November 19, 2019, from 5-7 pm at the Keenan Funeral Home, 238 Elm Street West Haven. Burial will be on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, at 11:00 am at Oak Grove Cemetery.
