Michael Meizies

Michael Meizies, 95, of West Haven, CT entered into eternal rest on Thursday, April 13, 2023 surrounded by his family.  He is the beloved husband of Irene Meizies.  Mike was born in New Haven on March 21, 1928, son the late Peter Anthony and Madeline Meizies (Labalakiute).  He worked 25 years for Branch Motors Express in Orange.  Mike served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was a former member of the Lithuanian Club in New Haven.

Mike was a loving husband and father.  Spending time with his family was his most cherished past time.  He truly enjoyed being a part of the countless family celebrations and gatherings.  An avid Red Sox fan, Mike spent his summers camping with his family at Witch Meadows in Salem and fishing along the Connecticut shorelines.  He was always up for bingo, a card game, listening to music and dancing the night away while enjoying a chilled glass of scotch.  To know Mike was to love him.  He was a kind, compassionate, loving, caring, and selfless man.  Mike always put his loved ones needs before his own, and offered a helping hand whenever needed.  He had a deep connection with his Catholic faith, and was an avid church-goer.  Even through the struggles and tough times he endeavored, he never complained.  Mike was a fighter.  “Be British!” he would say.  That was Mike.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Irene Meizies, and three children; Kevin, Joseph and Michelle, and one granddaughter, Jennifer.  He was predeceased by three brothers and one sister.  Mike leaves behind an extended loving family.
