Mary A. Knoll, 88, of Hamden, passed away peacefully at Yale-New Haven Hospital on September 22, 2018. She was the beloved wife of the late Theodore R. Knoll. Mary was born in Cheshire on September 11, 1930 to the late Edward D. and Mary Anne (Gross) Bernard.
In the 1940s and ‘50s, Mary was a member of the Sweet Adelines Group. She loved to travel to see her sister in Oregon, and to Canada and Maine. Mary was involved in talent shows in the Davenport building, where she lived, singing and playing beautiful music on the piano. Mary was an avid baker, loved horses, and enjoyed autumn. But most of all she loved her family, and she will be sadly missed.
Mary is survived by her five children: Patricia J. Forest of Hamden, Mary Anne (Glenn) Zacarelli of Hamden, Nancy Knoll, Barbara (Scott) Macdowall of Guilford, and George C. (Corey) Knoll of Hamden. She has one sister, Louise (Chuck) Wright of Oregon. She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Nicholas, Benjamin, Robert, Nicole, Anthony, Samantha, Bradley, Jessica, Desiree and Dominique. Mary was predeceased by four brothers, and a son, Russell Knoll.
Family and friends may visit the Keenan Funeral Home, 238 Elm Street, West Haven on Wednesday, September 26, from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 27 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery.
