Mary B. Howard, 86, of Orange, passed away suddenly on March 6, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Born on May 25, 1937, in New Haven, she was the beloved daughter of George C. Benedict and Mary Dalton Benedict. Mary was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 40 years, Albert J. Howard, Jr.
Throughout her life, Mary was known for her warmth, vivacity, and storytelling prowess. As the family matriarch, she brought joy to every gathering and touched the lives of all who knew her. Mary's passion for education led her to attain a Master's degree in teaching from Southern Connecticut State University after graduating from Manhattanville College. She was a remarkable woman who will be greatly missed by her family and the many that knew and loved her.
In addition to her roles as a mother, grandmother, and educator, Mary was a devout member of Holy Infant Church. She found solace and strength in her faith and served as a daily communicant and eucharistic minister.
Mary is survived by her son, Albert J. Howard III of Orange; daughters Mary D. Howard of Ithaca, NY, and Beatrice A. Howard and her husband Alfried Vogler of London, England; and son George B. Howard and his wife, Kathrin of Orange. She was a source of inspiration and strength to her grandchildren: Joseph, Julianna, Katia, Lena, and Rika. Mary's legacy of love and kindness will forever live on in the hearts of her family.
A celebration of Mary's life will be held with visitation followed by Mass of Christian burial on Friday morning at 10:15 am at Holy Infant Church in Orange. Interment will take place at St. Lawrence Cemetery in West Haven, CT.

Mary B. Howard's presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit will continue to shine brightly, guiding and comforting those she loved. May she rest in eternal peace.
