In Memoriam:  Margaret (Meg) Adams Winter ~ 1956-2021

Sadly, the Winter family shares the unexpected news of Meg’s passing.

Originally from Connecticut and the fourth of seven children, Meg earned a BA from Loyola University in New Orleans. She continued her studies at the Accademia di Bella Arti in Rome, Italy. Over the years, Meg traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe, Morocco, the Caribbean, Central America and Canada.

Prior to becoming a full-time artist and teacher, Meg had a career in the financial services business working in both San Francisco and Ft. Lauderdale. The financial institution commissioned Meg to paint a series of twelve large watercolors depicting “Wall Street”.

Meg’s heart was in her art and raising her two beloved sons, Nick and Will Carell.   She spent the last 20-plus years as a full-time artist and teacher of children at The Pine School and the Elliott Museum. Her paintings are a celebration so vividly associated with her travels. Her work is a reflection of nature and the landscapes she had grown to love with an emphasis on light, shadow, and a sense of adventure.

Meg's artistic accomplishments, exhibits and commissions took off when she was requested to paint 72 original parrot paintings for The Sands Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, NJ. More similar commissions followed as a result. Always an avid swimmer, she took up scuba diving and sought the beauty of marine life, another new subject matter for her art. Meg’s studies in painting, pottery, sculpture, fabric design and teaching adult and child art lessons correlated with her encouragement of her students and her enthusiasm for her love of life.

Several years ago, Meg left Sewall’s Point and returned to her beloved Connecticut roots resettling in the coastal town of Branford. She leaves behind a legacy of caring concern for others, her own enormous talents, a memorably warm smile, and a big-heart she generously shared with her many friends.

Meg was predeceased by her brother John, and her parents Edward and Joan Winter. Survivors include her sons: Nicholas and William Carell , her siblings: Chris, Rob, Peter, Sally and Mary as well as 8 nieces and nephews: Katie, Margaret, Timothy, Jimmy, Christopher, Libby, Edward, and Joaquin.

May God bless you in every way. We will miss you forever Meggy.  Love you always, Sally.
