Margaret Dorothy O’Neill Murphy, age 95, of West Haven, beloved wife of the late William E. Murphy Jr., passed away on August 27, 2018 at Yale New Haven Hospital surrounded by her family.
She was born on June 3, 1923 in Springfield, MA to the late Daniel and Margaret Rush O’Neill.
Margaret graduated from Commercial High in 1941 where she met the love of her life, Bill, in her senior year. They married on May 9, 1943 in Camp Stewart, GA during WWII. They were married for 64 years when Bill passed on February 11, 2007.
Margaret retired from the Knights of Columbus Supreme Headquarters in New Haven in 1984 where she worked as a Typist for 21 years.
Her greatest joy besides her family and her home was doing word search puzzles for hours on end and watching Hallmark movies.
Besides her husband and parents, she is predeceased by her daughter Carolyn DiBuccio and brothers Patrick and Raymond O’Neill.
Left to cherish her memory forever are her daughters Linda Murphy (with whom she resided), Susan (Arthur) Pfaff, Ann (David) Spillane, Son-In-Law Victor DiBuccio, 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter as well as several nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to the nurses at Yale New Haven Hospital and the staff of Yale New Haven Hospice for their compassion and wonderful care of our beloved Mother during this very difficult time.
Family and friends may visit the Keenan Funeral Home, 238 Elm Street, West Haven, CT on Monday, September 3, 2018 from 3 pm – 6 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, September 4 11 am at Our Lady of Victory Church, 600 Jones Hill Road, West Haven followed by interment at All Saints Cemetery, 700 Middletown Avenue, North Haven.
