James (Jimmy) M. Coffey, 66, of West Haven passed away peacefully at Yale-New Haven Hospital on March 24, 2018. He was in the beginning of a courageous battle with cancer. Jimmy was born in New Haven on December 31, 1951 to the late Jeremiah H. and Eleanor (Metcalfe) Coffey.
Jimmy was a man of simple pleasures. He particularly loved sports and always rooted for the New York Yankees. He loved to take care of dogs, especially for all of his sister’s three dogs. He was a great story teller, loved westerns and brought a great deal of fun and life to our dinner table. Jimmy will be greatly missed.
Jimmy is survived by his sister Marylou Coffey Amendola (Vincent) of West Haven, niece Meegan Keefe Carrier (Jason) of Orange, his great-nieces: Shannon and Caitlyn and great nephew Timothy Carrier. Jimmy also leaves behind extended family members, Jacqueline Amendola Turpin (James) of Wallingford, and James Amendola of West Haven. A special thank you to Apple Rehab in West Haven, especially the nurses, aides and staff for their exquisite care and the compassion they had for Jimmy. We are forever thankful to all of them.
Family and friends may visit the Keenan Funeral Home, 238 Elm Street, West Haven on Tuesday, March 27, from 4-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at St. Lawrence Church in West Haven at 11am. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
