James R. Clifford

James R. Clifford, Age 85, of Margate, FL and West Haven, CT passed away on April 11, 2018 at his home in Florida. He was the beloved husband of Patricia Doyle Clifford. James was born in New Haven, CT on May 3, 1932 to the late James P. and Margaret Gould Clifford.

Jim was the proprietor of Jim’s Sunoco on Orange Avenue in West Haven for over 25 years!  He then went on to work as a private contractor for a plethora of people in both CT and FL. Jim has spent his last 30 years enjoying his winters in Florida with his wife Pat. James was a man with a love for engines, he was particularly passionate about  boating and airplanes. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and infectious laugh.  James leaves behind his family and his friends to cherish his memories, as he was a remarkable man who will be missed dearly.

Besides his wife of 38 years, he is survived by his five children, David (Linda) Clifford of Deep River, Sean (Kimily) Clifford of New York, Carrie Clifford of Branford, Margaret (Grant) Cambridge of California and Ann Clifford of West Haven. He is also survived by his three step children, Anne (Gordon) Axelson of California, Robert (Cenobia) Garvie of North Haven and Barbara (Leonard) Richard of Durham.  He also leaves his six grandchildren, Thomas, Brianna, Daisy, Elizabeth, Amanda and Blake. He is predeceased by two of his sons, Raymond and James as well as his five siblings.

Family and Friends may visit the Keenan Funeral Home, 238 Elm Street, West Haven on Thursday April 26 from 4 pm – 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, April 27 at 11 am at Our Lady of Victory, 600 Jones Hill Road, West Haven. Burial to follow at West Cemetery in Madison.
