George J. Shatto, Sr.

March 4, 1928 – September 24, 2022

George J. Shatto, Sr., age 94, was called home to be with the Lord on September 24, 2022, at his home in Pelion, S.C. He was born in Brackenridge, P.A. on March 4, 1928, to the late Harry B. Shatto and Ethel Maze Shatto. He was the beloved husband of the late Gwendolyn M. Shatto, whom he met at 21 years of age and remained devoted to until his passing.

He served his country proudly in the United States Navy for 21 years and retired as a Chief Petty Officer, EMC in 1966. He subsequently worked for the Safety Electric Equipment Cooperation and then moved on to, and retired from, Metro North Railroad. Upon retirement, he spent his days as a proud and devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and great grandfather. Throughout each chapter of his life, he excelled to the greatest heights, changing the lives of everyone he met. He was a man of integrity, humility, and selflessness. He will always be remembered for his strength, unconditional and unwavering love, kindness, and sense of humor. To know him was to love him.

He is survived by his children, George J. (Susan) Shatto, Jr., Sandra Pickard, and Michael (Lorri) Shatto. His six grandchildren, Shannon Casanova, Ashley (Joseph) Celotto, Chelsea (Johann) Ranz, Schaene Shatto, Carly (Nick) Faulkingham, and Spencer (Elise) Shatto. His seven great-grandchildren, Calliope, Anastasia, Aurora, Cristiano, Micah, Amelia, and one great granddaughter on the way. As well as many nieces and nephews, whom he adored.

He is predeceased by his parents, Harry and Ethel Shatto, his beloved wife, Gwendolyn Shatto, his daughter, Shari Shatto, and seven siblings.
