George C. Martinez

George C. Martinez 85, entered into eternal rest on Saturday May 1, 2021 at Yale New Haven Hospital with his wife Irene Martinez by his side he was born in Vega Baja, PR, was the son of the late Ramon Martinez & Ramona Ayala. He came to New Haven at the tender age of 17 yrs old, became self-employed  owned  the Spanish American Grocery Store also known as Georgie’s,  during  50 yrs of establishment he helped many in many ways, from giving credit, to giving out food to the community, he was known for his charitable ways, he was well loved by many/ community.  My father wasn’t only a caring and generous man to his community but also a caring husband and father. His love for his family was what pushed him to become the man he was My “ HERO” his memories live on with us forever…My father had the best stories to tell along with being a good listener, always smiling, making jokes, his smile and cheerful ways brighten up the room. The marks he leaves behind with each one of us will be a reminder of the great man he was, always kept himself very humble my father’s legacy will forever be remembered, Love you Pop.  He is survived by his loving wife of 39 yrs; Irene Martinez, Son Manuel Cotto, daughters Jacqueline & Noemi Cotto, Grandson Julian Marcel Cotto Clemons.

Predeceased by late wife Phyllis Martinez of 25 Yrs., and daughter Anne Marie (Annie) Dearborne.  Survived by: Grandchildren Jonathan, Jeffrey and Jenna Dearborne.  Daughter Judy Tripp (husband Leslie Tripp) Granddaughters Maria and Chelsea Tripp. Daughter Georgina Lopez (husband Orlando Lopez) Grandchildren Gineza, Gizel, Joshua, Joesabe Lopez and eight Great Grandchildren. Predeceased by brothers and sisters:  Apolonia, Anna Maria, Joseph, Bacilio, Marcial and Isabel Martinez and survived by sisters Ramonita, Lugrecia, Carmen Maria Torres Martinez.

A Memorial Service/Mass will be Held on Monday May 10, 2021 11-1pm, at Keenan Funeral Home 238 Elm St West Haven, Ct
