Genoveva R. Ortega

Genoveva Ortega (endearingly known as Dona Beba or Bebin by many), 79, from West Haven, CT passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, April 20, 2021. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Manuel Ortega Rodriguez and two of her three children, Luz Vega and Edwin Rodriguez.

She is survived by her daughter Nancy Biondi (Ralph); seven grandchildren, Marisol Vega, Taisha Ortiz, Lisa Goll (Jonathan), Marie Biondi, Jose Correa, Gina Godlewski (Joseph), and Cristina Monique Correa (Tia Maynard); six great grandchildren, Crystal, Jose Jr, Laila, Azreal, Lyla, Lilliana, and Greyson; and two stepsons, Junior Ortega and Wilfredo Ortega.

Genoveva was born on March 30th, 1942 in Carolina, Puerto Rico to Jacinto Rodriguez and Amparo Correa. She is one of 11 siblings; survived by Alejandro, Ramona, Angel Manuel, Margarita (Puchi), Josephina (Negrita); predeceased by siblings Francisca, Luz Maria, Adela, Ernesto (Tito), and Nilda.   

Genoveva was the heart and rock of her family.  In her early years after moving to the Bronx, New York from Puerto Rico with her young children, she successfully opened and owned a bar welcoming all with beautiful smile. After moving with her family to Connecticut, she began her long career as a nurse and enjoyed her time caring for others which came naturally to her. With her loving and strong-willed personality, Beba knew how to capture your love and warm up any room she was in.  She enjoyed a home full of family and friends to share laughs and memories with, hosting all family events, and sharing her deep-rooted traditions with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. From her famous Puerto Rican cooking to her capturing presence and radiating smile, Beba was adored by any and everyone she met. She was truly heaven sent.

May the glory of God guide her spirit to the gates of heaven and welcome her with open arms. While her physical presence may no longer be with us, her spirit will continue to surround her friends and family forever and always. She will be missed dearly by all.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, April 25, 2021 with viewing hours from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Keenan Funeral Home, 238 Elm St, West Haven. Catholic Church and Burial services will be held on Monday, April 26, 2021 at 11:00 am at Saint Lawrence Church, 207 Main Street, West Haven followed by the burial at Oak Grove Cemetery in West Haven at 12 pm.
