Evelyn Ruth Hogan

Evelyn Johnson Hogan, 93, formerly of North Branford and Killingworth, and most recently of Moodus, passed away Tuesday, Oct 16.  She was the wife of the late James Raymond Hogan, Sr. and the daughter of the late Milton and Olga Johnson. 

She is survived by her sister Dorothy Smiley of Sun City Center, FL and her 12 children: Katherine Rowe and John Michael Hogan of Branford; Patricia Hogan of North Branford; James R. Hogan, Jr. of Gainesville, FL; Margaret (Tom) Compton of Henderson, NV; Mary (David) Locke, of Moodus, Christine Hogan/Boyce (William) of Park Hills, KY, Nancy (Craig) Posey of Portland, ME; Barbara Battista of Hamden, William Hogan of Moodus, Elizabeth (Mark) Benton of Hebron, and Carolyn (Matthew) DuBell of Marriottsville, MD.  She is also survived by 31 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.  In addition to her husband and parents, Evelyn is predeceased by her sister Marion Kappeler and grandson, Richard Locke.

Evelyn was born on November 3, 1924 in New Haven, CT. She grew up in the Momauguin section of East Haven and graduated from East Haven High School in June 1942. She was married to her childhood friend Ray on November 22, 1947. They moved to North Branford, where they raised their family of twelve. Evelyn volunteered with the Girl Scouts of North Branford for 29 years working directly with multiple troops up to becoming the Service Chairman for both Northford and North Branford.   She moved to Killingworth and became involved in activities with school children of the Killingworth Elementary School and with the seniors of the town.  She served as both president and newsletter editor for the homeowner’s association in the Jensen community and represented the town of Killingworth on the Board of Directors for the Estuary Council in Old Saybrook.  Evelyn was an avid reader, loved to travel, enjoyed stamp collecting, shared her passion for arts and crafts, and most of all, was dedicated to her family.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday October 21, 2018 from 1-3 p.m. at Keenan Funeral Home, 330 Notch Hill Rd, North Branford, CT with a memorial service following at 3 p.m.  Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
