Edward J. Day

July 31, 1925 ~ January 3, 2018 (age 92) 92 Years Old


Edward J. Day, MD passed away peacefully on January 3, 2018, following a long illness. Dr. Day was an Ob-Gyn sole practitioner in the New Haven area for 50 years, proudly delivering thousands of babies and touching countless lives in doing so. Known as “Dad” or “Pop” to his loved ones and “Doc” to his friends, he was a beloved family member, avid golfer, over 50 year member of Racebrook Country Club and a long time Woodbridge, CT resident. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

Born on July 31, 1925 to Marion Callahan Day of New Haven, CT, he was predeceased by Margaret “Peg” Day, his loving wife of 42 years and medical practice nurse. Surviving family members are Edward (Deirdre) Day of Cheshire, CT, Mary (Harold) Stepanek of Williamsburg, VA and Betsy (Stephen) Francis of Woodbridge, CT, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

He joined the US Navy as a teenager and was part of the World War II Allied Invasion of Normandy, France on D-Day. Following the War, he went on to graduate from Hill House High School, Bowdoin College and New York Medical College. As a physician, he was an attending Ob-Gyn at St. Raphael’s Hospital and Yale New Haven Hospital for his entire career.

In keeping with his request, he was laid to rest in Woodbridge, CT next to his beloved wife Peg, in a private graveside service with military honors. The Family extends its sincerest thanks and appreciation to all who helped him with his end of life care.
