Diane F. Darcey

On the evening of Tuesday, July 4, Diane Frances Darcey, age 74, passed away in the loving presence of her family at Yale New Haven Hospital after suffering a stroke days earlier. 

Diane grew up in West Haven, Connecticut, the child of Frank and Kathryn Darcey, and graduated from St. Mary’s High School and Southern Connecticut State University.  She is survived by her daughter Page Levendis, her daughter Beth Levendis, her grandson Cillian Nunez, her granddaughter Faya Nunez, and her brothers Robert Darcey and Terrence Darcey.

Diane was a talented and celebrated school teacher, working for many years in Arlington County Public Schools.  Her passion for education extended to all areas of her life - she continued to educate herself in many areas of interest throughout her life even into this last year.  She has positively impacted the lives of countless students with her uncommon compassion and devotion, and her own children and grandchildren will carry her legacy of intellectual curiosity and commitment to the pursuit of knowledge into the family’s future.  She was very active in her community as well, a member of the Junior League, P.E.O. and Daughters of the American Revolution.  Diane had recently moved from Virginia back to her childhood home of Connecticut and had reconnected with many childhood friends, and she and her loved ones were enjoying a wonderful new chapter of her life.

It has been said that the most valuable thing you can give someone is your time, and Diane was always willing to give hers.  If you needed to talk, she had the time to listen.  She will be forever loved and sorely missed.

Friends may call on the family this Tuesday, July 11th at Keenan Funeral Home, 238 Elm St., West Haven, Connecticut (203-933-1217).  Calling hours will be 5-7pm and the memorial service will begin at 7pm.
