Carol M. Harker

Carol M. Harker, aged 77, of West Haven, passed away September 30, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer.  Carol was born June 19, 1945, in Woodbury N.J., daughter of the late Doris and Lester Harker.  She grew up in Riverton, N.J., graduated from Palmyra (N.J.) high school, and attended the University of Delaware, majoring in French.  While participating in the U. Delaware marching band, she met her life-long love and future husband, Wayne Fenton, presently a research scientist at Yale Medical School.  After graduating, she attended Indiana University, earning an M.A. in French Literature.  She spent a year teaching English at a French lycée, then returned to U. Delaware as an instructor in French.  When Wayne finished his Ph.D. thesis, they married, and she decided to change careers.  She attended Southern Connecticut State University Library School and earned an M.L.S.  She worked briefly as a reference librarian at the Connecticut State Library’s Library Line, then took a position as government documents librarian at the University of New Haven, followed by a reference librarian post at the University of Bridgeport. She was recruited from there by EBSCO Information Services as an account manager, a position from which she retired after 15 years.

Carol enjoyed sailing, hiking, and traveling with her husband, Wayne, along with trips to the family vacation home “down the Shore” on Long Beach Island, N.J.  More recently, reading and walking along the West Haven shoreline have been her favorite pursuits.  She is survived by her husband, Wayne, her brother, Doug, her nephew Nick, and cousins Ken, Randy, and Deborah.

Friends may call at Keenan Funeral Home, 238 Elm St., West Haven, on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, from 5:00-8:00 p.m.  Interment will be in New Jersey after a graveside service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the West Haven Public Library.
