Barbara W. Cassie

Old Saybrook - Barbara Wright Cassie, 90, of Old Saybrook, passed away after a short illness on August 25, 2019.  She was born in Quincy, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late Lawrence Wright and Dorothy Lincoln. She was predeceased by a brother Robert Wright and sister Marjorie Carson.

Barbara will be sadly missed by her husband of 68 years, Douglas E. Cassie and her children, Susan Cassie (Jeff) of Bernardston, MA; Janet Downie (Peter) of Deep River, CT; and Robert Cassie (Mary Jane) of Feeding Hills, MA.  Additionally, she will be missed by her grandchildren, Talia, Lauren, Kaitlyn, Cameron, Matthew and Larisa.  Also missing Barbara are her 6 great-grandchildren, Mya, Bryce, Harper, Emily, Jaxson and Grant.

A graduate of North Quincy High, Barbara worked as a secretary in Boston, MA, Pittsburgh, PA and Idaho Falls, ID eventually finding her way to Old Saybrook to raise her family.  She took pride in her role as a coordinator for Project Learn serving the educational systems along the shoreline for several years.

Together Barbara and Douglas traveled extensively throughout the lower 48 states and especially loved the trips ‘out West’.  These trips and wonderful memories sustained her in later years. 

Barbara truly relished her time with her extensive family and recently enjoyed a ninetieth birthday with many of them spending the special day together.

A graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Old Saybrook at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 30, 2019.
