Angel “Angie” Cobian passed away peacefully on April 4, 2022 at Yale New Haven Hospital with his loving wife, Alina Gayoso, by his side. A proud U.S. Army Veteran who served in the Vietnam War, Angel was born in Guantanamo, Cuba. He spent his childhood years at the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base and then in Norfolk, VA before moving to Connecticut. He was the son of the late Roberto & Aida Cobian. He is predeceased by his brother Roberto Cobian and sister Alma Simon.
Angel is survived by his sister, Aida Andrzejewski (Richard) of Monroe, CT. He is also survived by two sons, Robert Cobian and Angel Luis Cobian (Vanessa) both of Miami, Florida. Three grandsons; Jason, Jonathan and Brenden and his great-grandson Noah as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Prior to his retirement in 2008, Angel worked as a Cable Repairman for SNET/AT&T for over 40 years. He was an active member of the local chapter of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
For most of his life he was an avid fisherman and boat owner and enjoyed fishing and boating in the waters of Long Island Sound. His favorite vacation and fishing spot was in the upper Florida Keys with his beloved family.
Angel had a passion for helping those in need as evidenced by his work at Feel the Warmth soup kitchen in Bridgeport and as a wheelchair escort at the Veteran’s Hospital in West Haven. He was a kind, generous soul who enjoyed cooking for family, friends and church members. He was quick to give his neighbors a helping hand.
A service to celebrate Angel’s life will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 5 p.m. at White Oak Baptist Church, 5344 Main St., Stratford, CT (Putney).
