WEST HAVEN ~ Beverly Ann Avitabile, 75, of Orange, wife of the late Alberico “Albie” Avitabile, loving mother, devoted grandmother and great grandmother, beloved sister, and a dear friend to so many, died Sunday, April 12, at Connecticut Hospice, after a courageous battle with cancer. Her devoted family was at her side. Beverly was born in New Haven, May 25, 1939, a daughter of the late George and Carmela Volta Giammattei. She was a graduate of West Haven High School and was an active member of the Reunion Committee, Class of 1957. For 35 years she was the office manager for Sodexo Dining Services at the University of New Haven. Beverly was a communicant of Holy Infant Church. She enjoyed cooking, was an avid gardener, and a wonderfully giving person to everyone she met. Truly her greatest love was the time she shared with her adoring family. Beverly is survived by her children, James Avitabile, of Orange, Matthew (Jeanine) Avitabile, of New Haven, and Christopher (Abraxas) Avitabile, of Greensboro, NC; 8 very special grandchildren, Stephanie, Hans, Devan, Alicia, Matthew, Michael, Cameron, and Aubrey Avitabile; and 3 cherished great grandchildren, Amari, Xienna, and Giada Avitabile; a brother, George (Barbara) Giammattei, of Salisbury, NY; two sisters, Lucille Catalano, of Northford, CT, and Arlene Lucibello, of North Branford. She was predeceased by a grandson, Jaylen Charles Avitabile, and a brother, Robert Giammattei. The funeral will be from the Keenan Funeral Home, 238 Elm Street, West Haven, Friday morning at 10:00. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Infant Church, Racebrook Road, Orange at 11:00. Burial will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery, West Haven.
