Leonora Corvera Khu

Leonora Rabuya Corvera Khu, RN, age 86 of West Haven, CT, passed away on March 19, 2024. She was born in Cabadbaran, Agusan del Norte, Philippines, on October 29, 1937, as the daughter of the late Florencio and Candelaria Corvera.

Along with her parents, Nora was predeceased by her beloved husband, the late Dr. Enrico Gervacio Khu, MD, her sisters Carmen Corvera Yu and Evangelina Corvera, RN and her brothers Benjamin, Mariano, Hilarion, and Manuel Corvera.

She is survived by her daughters Eleonora Lopez (Emmanuel), Elaine Khu-Sloane (Mark), and Elizabeth Khu-Baxley (Christian); sons Dr. Richard Khu, MD (Precious), Arthur Khu (Jacqui), and Edward Khu; grandchildren Dr. Susanna Lopez, PsyD, Ariana Khu, Daniel Lopez, Thomas Sloane, India Sloane, Enrico Khu, Chanelle Khu, Hannah Khu, and Charleston Khu; and many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.

Nora graduated from Far Eastern University Institute of Health Sciences and Nursing. She was a nurse at St. Raphael Hospital as well as her husband’s private practice in New Haven. Nora was a beacon of light within the Filipino community, where she served as Treasurer of the Philippine-American Association of Connecticut, tirelessly working towards fostering a sense of belonging and solidarity. Her passion for community building was evident in the fierce protection of her family and friends, offering solace and guidance to all who sought her counsel. With her love of cultural dancing and music, she hosted the Leyte Dance Theatre at the Big House on the top of Shingle HIll Road. Whether through her work as a nurse, her delicious home-cooked meals, or her heartfelt and genuine hospitality, Nora’s presence brought laughter and comfort to all who knew her. We will always remember her for her joyful laughter and generosity.

Family and friends may pay their respects during a visitation at Keenan Funeral Home 238 Elm St., West Haven on Tuesday, March 26th, from 5pm to 8pm. A funeral mass will take place at St. John Vianney Church 300 Captain Thomas Blvd, West Haven on Wednesday, March 27th, at 9:30a.m., followed by a burial service at St. Lawrence Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to PAAC for a nursing scholarship fund in her name.
