Joan A. Jansen, 82, of West Haven passed away surrounded by her family on November 18, 2017 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Stephen (Joe) Jansen, Sr. Joan was born in White Plains, NY on November 23, 1934, to the late Arthur and Agnes (Olsen) McConnell. Joan was a graduate of the Class of 1952 at White Plains High School. She started her banking career at Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company in White Plains. She moved to Empire State Saving and Loan, where she worked as the head teller. Joan moved to Stamford, CT and San Diego, CA for a short time, settling in West Haven in 1978. As a single mother of three, she continued in banking as she worked for State National Bank until retiring from Bank of America in 1994. But most of all, she was a great wife and mother, always the glue that held the family together. She will be sadly missed. Beside her husband Stephen, she is survived by her three children: Lynn Spangler of West Haven, Paul Spangler of Florida, and Lori Clark of Derby. Joan is also survived by Stephen J. Jansen Jr. of Fairfield, CT, Albert W. Jansen, and Robert J. Jansen both of Southbury, Michael J. Jansen of Florida, and David A. Jansen of Middlebury. She also leaves behind a brother, Thomas A. Formilca, as well as eighteen grandchildren. Family and friends may visit the Keenan Funeral Home, 238 Elm Street, West Haven on Sunday, November 26 from 2-4pm. Funeral services will be at the funeral home Monday at 11am, with burial in Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien at 2pm.
