Francis E. Keenan

Francis Edward Keenan passed away peacefully on December 6, 2017.  Loving husband of the late Virginia Niday Keenan, he was born in New Haven, Connecticut on September 21, 1920 to Lucy and Francis Keenan.  

He served in the United States Navy in both the Second World War and the Korean War.  After leaving the service, he worked for the Social Security Administration in Baltimore, Maryland.  He and his family moved back to Connecticut in 1954, where he went to work for Pirelli Armstrong Tire.  He retired after 30 years and spent his retirement traveling, gardening and caring for his grandchildren. 

Francis leaves his three children, Rita Smith (James), Francis (Ed) Keenan, and Judith Stedman (Paul) as well as his sister Alice Hughes, and brothers Edward Keenan and Michael Keenan. Beloved grandfather to Lauren Smith, James D. Smith and Francis Edward Keenan IV, and great grandfather to Lillian Smith and William Keenan, he will be missed by all who knew and loved him. 

A memorial service will be held on January 6th at 11am, with burial to follow in the memorial garden, at Zion Episcopal Church, 326 Notch Hill Road, North Branford CT.  Donations in his memory may be made to Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care, Middlebury, CT or a charity of your choice.
