Eugenio Alers

Eugenio Alers, 96, of New  Haven, beloved husband of 71 years to Bernarda (Rodriguez) Alers,  passed away on Tuesday October 10, 2017 at the West Haven V.A. Medical Center.  He was born in Aguada, Puerto Rico to the late Felipe and Martina (Cardona) Alers. 

He proudly served our country in the armed forces as a member of The United States Army.  He was a marble craftsman for the Peerless Marble Company in New York for over 45 years and even cut stone for the late John Lennon at one time in his career. 

Eugenio will always be remembered for his tireless work ethic, love and devotion to his family and for being the most supportive and compassionate father that a child could ask for.

Besides his wife Bernarda he is survived by his eight children; Eugenio (Myrna) Alers, Carlos Alers, Bedsaida (Ralphy) Soto, Elizabeth (Matt) Kerigan, Minerva (Joe) Bonilla, Hector (Jennifer) Alers, Ramona Alers and Haydee (Francisco) Cosme.  Eugenio is also survived by five siblings; Carlos, Rene, Benjamin, Ana and Sara; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his four children; Adelaida Alers, Gladys Alers-Cuevas, Alexander Alers, and Richard Alers, as well as four brothers and one sister. 

His family wishes to thank Sierra and Doris for their loving and compassionate care of their dad during his final days. 

Friends and family may gather at the Keenan Funeral Home, 238 Elm St. West Haven on Friday October 13, 2017 from 4-8pm.  A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday October 14, 2017 at 9am.  Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in New Haven.
