Elizabeth D. Allen

Elizabeth Allen, 87, of West Haven, passed away peacefully at her home on September 12, 2017 surrounded by her family. Elizabeth was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 22, 1929 to the late John Gilroy and Anna Hill.

Elizabeth was a long time resident of West Haven and retired from Bank of America. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and loved being surrounded by her family and friends. She was a devoted Catholic who attended Mass every Sunday. Her hobbies included knitting, reading, crossword puzzles and babysitting. She adored the music of Frank Sinatra and the Big Bands of the 1940s.

She is predeceased by her husband William W. Allen Sr. of West Haven, and two sons William W. Allen Jr. and Thomas Allen of West Haven. She is survived by five children: Susan Vitagliano (Ron) of New Haven, Louise Hager (Jim) of Cheshire, Joanne Gauthier (James) of East Haven, John Allen of West Haven and Beth Turro (Charlie) of Portland, Maine. In addition she is survived by her grandchildren, Jason, Gregory & Erik Vitagliano, Kayla Allen, Renee Martin, Kellie Pascale, Stacy Bouchard, Jimmy & Tommy Allen, Jessica & Shanna Capecea, Colt & Jake Turro and eighteen great grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit the Keenan Funeral Home, 238 Elm Street, West Haven, on Friday, September 15, 2017 from 5-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday September 16, at 10 am at St. Paul Church in West Haven. Burial will immediately follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery.
