Anthony Mathew “Newt” D’Addetta, age 92, entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 7th 2017 at the Hospital of Saint Raphael in New Haven, CT. Born on August 18, 1924 to the late Michael M. and Rose (DeMayo) D’Addetta in West Haven.
He was the father of Michael D’Addetta of Branford, Amy (Stephen Larkin) D’Addetta of West Hartford, Clifford D’Addetta of North Branford, and A. Lauren (David) McCarley of Grapevine, TX. He also leaves behind grandchildren William (Holly), Michael, Lauren Michelle and Jamie McCarley of Texas; and David Larkin of West Hartford.
Newt was a graduate of the University of Connecticut. Prior to his retirement he was the directory editor at the Southern New England Telephone Company. Newt served in the 26th Infantry Yankee Division in WWll earning 4 Battle Stars, Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge. He also served in Japan during the Korean War as Personnel Officer in the Air force. Raising his family in Northford, Newt served as Chairman of the Salvation Army Rehab Center and Chairman of the Advisory Board of the New Haven Salvation Army Corps. A former Co-Chairman of the Greater New Haven Postal Council, he had also served as President of the North Branford Public Health Nursing Association, President of the Northford Village Improvement Society, Chairman of the North Branford Zoning Commission, Chairman of the North Branford Republican Party, and was a member of the North Branford Planning and Zoning Commission. He was a committee member of Troop 463 BSA, former member of the Guilford Sportsman Association, Member of the National Rifle Association, American Legion Post 76 and a former Justice of the Peace.
A memorial service will be announced and held at a later date.
