Angelo Louis Signore, 85, of West Haven, passed away peacefully with his son by his side on February 2, 2017 at the VA Hospital in West Haven. He was the beloved husband of the late Juliette (DiCola) Signore of Providence, Rhode Island. Angelo was born in New Haven on May 24, 1931 to the late William G. and Concetta (D’Andrea) Signore.
Angelo was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran. He owned Signore’s Pastry Shop and Deli through the 1970s. Angelo retired in 1989 from Yale New Haven Hospital where he was a Kitchen Supervisor and Head Pastry Chef for 43 years. Known to his family and friends as “Uncle Sonny”, he frequently enjoyed taking walks and bike rides along the West Haven beach. He also enjoyed many summers spent in Rhode Island at his second home. Angelo loved making people laugh and telling stories about his experiences. Angelo believed strongly in hard work and paying attention to detail.
Angelo is survived by his son Joseph and daughter-in-law Josephine Signore and his grandchildren Angelo J. and Joseph I. Signore, of Killingworth and his daughter Maria C. Landona of Shelton. He is also survived by his brother Joseph William Signore of New Haven, many nieces and nephews and his God-son Christian A. DeCato of Naugatuck.
Family and friends may visit the Keenan Funeral Home, 238 Elm Street, West Haven on Wednesday, February 8, from 5 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday at Saint Anthony’s Church, 70 Washington Avenue, New Haven.
