WALLINGFORD & NEW HAVEN ~ Nubia Esther Pena Flores, 62, of Wallingford, loving wife of the late Manuel Solomon Flores, beloved mother of Sandra Flores Dougherty and her husband Chad, of Bristol, much loved sister and aunt, died suddenly, Saturday, April 12, 2014, after being stricken at home. Nubia was born in Barranquilla, Colombia, December 14, 1951, a daughter of the late Heremenegildo and Graciela Cuevas Pena. Nubia and her late husband Manuel were active members of the Star of Jacob Pentecostal Church of New Haven. She first worked for Vectron Labs in Norwalk for 10 years, and had been currently employed for over 20 years with Covidien, (formerly U.S. Surgical Corp.), of North Haven. Besides her daughter and son-in-law, Nubia is survived by three brothers, Jose (Carmen) Pena, of Hialeah, FL, Hermenegildo (Louisa) Pena, and Alfonso Pena, all of Barranquilla, Colombia; three sisters, Amalia (Manuel) Castro, of Stamford, CT, Sonia (Juan) Pena Sandoval, of Barranquilla, Colombia, and Graciela Pena, of Venezuela. She also leaves her nephew Anthony Sandoval, his wife Anna, and their children Adriana and Tony, of West Haven, and her niece Maria Dolores Sarmiento Sandoval, of Barranquilla, Colombia, as well as many other nieces and nephews. Nubia was predeceased by a brother, Enrique Pena. The funeral will be from the Star of Jacob Pentacostal Church, 506 Howard Avenue, New Haven, Thursday morning, at 10:00. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, West Haven. Friends may call at the church, Wednesday evening from 3:00 to 8:00 pm with a religious service at 7:00.
